Packers: NFL Lockout Deal Done & Football This Week

Legendary senior writer jclombardi reports about NFL lockout deal.

BREAKING NEWS: Sources are verifying ESPN’s Chris Mortensen’s report that NFL owners and NFLPA settled the final unresolved issues in the NFL lockout.  Monday, the NFLPA is expected to approve the new collective bargaining agreement.  Then, the players can report to their training camps beginning on Wednesday.  Next, in the coming week, the NFLPA is expected to recertify as a union clearing the way for the new 10 years CBA.  ESPN’s timeline:

Monday: NFLPA’s executive committee votes whether to recommend approval of the CBA approved by owners on Thursday. Then, a player rep from each of the 32 teams votes whether to recommend approval of the CBA.

Tuesday/Wednesday: Players from some teams report to facilities and vote whether to recertify the NFLPA as a union and accept the proposed CBA. If the NFLPA has gotten the necessary votes, teams can also start contract talks with their own players, including free agents and draft choices.

• Friday: The remaining players report and vote whether to approve recertification and the CBA. If the NFLPA then receives the necessary 50-percent-plus-one-vote majority in approval, then it recertifies as a union.

Saturday: Free agency starts and teams can officially sign players.

Update: PFT says,Big implications of the new CBA, which is expected to be voted on by the NFLPA* Executive Committee on Monday. Top rookie picks will make a lot less, and there have been rules put in place to discourage rookie holdouts. Revenue sharing has been adjusted. The salary cap will be flexible in 2011.  Padded practices will plummet. Tampering won’t be a big issue this year.”

Update2: Packers will report to training camp Friday and their first practice is Saturday. Family Night scrimmage is scheduled for August 6, 2011
