Why Do The Majority of NFL Teams Play Near A Casino?

players

It’s a little known face that more than half of NFL teams have their stadiums located within 11 miles of a casino while 81% of all teams play their home games within an hour’s drive of a casino. For a long time there has been a belief that professional athletes and casinos cannot co-exist in the same city but these stats prove otherwise. In fact the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans are the only teams who play more than 40 miles away from the nearest casino.

At the other end of the distance scale the Los Angeles Rams are the closest at 0.1 miles away from the nearest casino while Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints are all within walking distance of a casino at less than a mile. Casino gaming has become a worldwide mainstay of which you can read more at Best Deal Casinos. This analysis carried out by the AGA (American Gaming Association) shows that there is no harm in putting professional athletes near casinos.

For a long time the NFL have done their very best to keep their business away from the gambling industry in what has been, on the whole, an illogical fear that it would have a negative impact on the sport and that games could end up compromised. There has been speculation lately about the potential move of the Oakland Raiders to a new home in Las Vegas. Many critics have claimed that the Vegas strip is too close to comfort for NFL players. What they seem to have missed is that the players could opt for an online casino and they’ve also not taken into account the number of NFL games played in London that are also right near a casino.

The possibility of the Raiders moving to Las Vegas is still at a very early stage as owner Mark Davis has recently been meeting with officials in Vegas but Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones, owners of the Patriots and Cowboys respectively, have been vocal in their support for the potential move.

Generally there is deliberate reason that 81% of NFL teams are located so close to casinos, in many cases the stadiums were probably built long before the casino, so really it’s a case of why casinos are located close to NFL stadiums. The good news for NFL fans is that they can then head to their nearest casino and play a few of their favorite games after watching their favorite team in action. As for the players it is probably time for a fresh stance on the sports betting prohibition in the United States.
