49ers QB Colin Kaepernick‘s legs were too much, as the Niners knocked the Packers out of the playoffs with a 23-20 win at frigid Lambeau Field.
A huge focus on the game was the brutal temps in Green Bay. The temps at kickoff was 5 degrees, with a wind chill of minus-10.
The loss is the second this season to the Niners, and it’s the third in 12 months after the Packers were knocked out of the postseason last year in San Francisco.
Eddie Lacy ran for 81 yards on 21 carries for the Packers, while Frank Gore had 66 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries for the 49ers.
It was a tough day for Aaron Rodgers for the most part, as he finished 17 of 26 for 177 yards and one touchdown.
Kaepernick ran for a huge third down in the game-winning drive, and he also threw an excellent ball to wide out Michael Crabtree on a 3rd-and-10 for 17 yards from the Niners 31-yard line.
In the end, veteran kicker Phil Dawson kicked a 33-yard field goal as time expired to give the 49ers the three-point win, and left the Packers saying ‘what if.’
Kaepernick threw for 227 yards, including a 28-yard TD pass to Vernon Davis, and ran for another 98.
The win puts the Niners in a Divisional contest against the Carolina Panthers, the NFC South Champs with Cam Newton leading the way at QB.
