Review Atlanta Green Bay

Thoughts after week fourteen Atlanta and Green Bay. I was at this game with my friend. We did freeze our tails off. The Wisconsin winter wind cuts like a knife. If we didn’t win the game that winter wind would have been much colder.

Being at the game is always a great experience. I love Packer fans for many reasons. Packer fans are knowledgeable about football, friendly, and will not accept losing anymore. If you made it through the 80’s you know that sinking feeling. Packer fans expect championships. It was only fitting that Don Majowski was at the game for he did help the Packers get the Pack back on track.

First the good: Matt Flynn. Matt Flynn did what he needed to do. He made timely throws, scrambled, and didn’t make any costly mistakes. When the Packers booed at half time, Flynn was able to shake it off and get a win.

The Bad: Red Zone proficiency. We had numerous trips to the red zone and all we got was field goals. I am not blaming Flynn for this. Rodgers had issues too.
McCarthy’s play calling is too inconsistent. McCarthy should know to play to your strengths. Flynn doesn’t have Rodgers arm strength, or accuracy. Why is McCarthy having Flynn make that throw? Flynn is better on the run. Why not a kind of option play with Lacy?

The Good: Andrew Quarless. He finally played up to his potential. If Andrew can continue to develop into the tight end the Packers expect him to be. He will make a fine replacement for Finley.

The Bad: One sack. Capers must have blitzed only 20% of the time. Matt Ryan’s jersey was clean for most of the game. Clay Matthews was not a factor at all. You would think because of the playing surface that the Packers would get to Ryan. The Falcons had five sacks of Flynn. Some of the sacks were unabated to the quarterback. Why didn’t Capers come after Ryan more?

The Good: This team didn’t give up, even when the fans were booing, the strange interception, and no Rodgers. It has been a crazy season to say the least. Every season is difficult in the NFL. I am not sure if this will propel the Packers into winning the next three games, and make the playoffs. At least for this game the Packers did something they hadn’t done in a month they played a team game And got back on track.

I give the Packers a 3 out of 5 for this game. Cowboys are up next.
