Packers Detroit Week Five Preview

Green Bay Packers v Detroit Lions

Green Bay and Detroit. This is finally a great matchup. The days are over where Packers fans checked off a win versus Detroit.

Back to the preview of the Game. Three things to watch.

1. Packers offense line vs. Detroit defense line: This is a common theme in the first part of the season. Detroit has a great defensive line. Suh and Fairley are developing a nice one two punch. The Packers offensive line has to keep Rodgers upright. Rodgers is taking way too many sacks. The offensive line is averaging 3 sacks a game. Rodgers cannot keep taking this punishment.

2. Packers Receivers vs. the Detroit Secondary: James Jones needs to have big game. He is the key to this game. If Detroit’s secondary doubles Jones it will open up Cobb and Nelson. I don’t think Finley will have a big game. Detroit has a good linebacker corps.

3. Packers Defense: This can be the Packer’s statement game. Morgan Burnett is back. Clay Matthews is playing. Datone Jones has heard the rumblings from fans and the media that he is invisible out on the field. Jones needs to have a big game. He needs to squash the reports that he is just a guy. He needs to be a playmaker. If he can help Matthews by being a force on the other side. This defense can be special.

My final thoughts are that the Packers should win this game. I think it will a hard fought game. In the end the Packers have too much firepower. Packers 31-17 Detroit.
