Thoughts after week three Cincinnati and Green Bay. The Packers continue to make mistakes. The turnovers were nice gifts. The offense did nothing with Cincinnati’s gifts. If the Packers think they can win games like this one. The Packers better get their act together or it could be a long season. I want to look at the good and bad of the game.
First the good: The Packers defense were physical and were able to cause turnovers. The Packers were able to blitz Cincinnati Quarterback Andy Dalton most of the day. The defense did a pretty good job against the run.
The Bad: The defense. How can the defense look so good, then look so bad all in one game. The Packers are up by 16 points deep into the third quarter. Then before you can say’” Vince Lombardi”, we’re only up by 3. When Clay Matthews went out the defense fell apart. Nick Perry and Datone Jones where are you?
The Good: Johnathon Franklin was wonderful. He was patient and found the holes, hit them hard. Franklin could be a great addition to the offense. He just needs to hold onto the football.
The Bad: Aaron Rodgers was average. I’m being nice. Rodgers seems to get a little flustered when he faces tough defenses. Whether it be Seattle, San Francisco, or Cincinnati. I don’t understand why he can’t be patient. Take what the defense gives you. Tom Brady has made a career out of it.
The Good: Mike Daniels looks like the real deal. He is becoming a force on the line. If he continues to develop we might have our defensive tackle for the future.
The Bad: McCarthy seems to be overthinking things. Why not quarterback sneak on fourth and 1? Better yet fake the field goal. The play we used against the Bears last year with Crabtree. McCarthy needs to stop overthinking and let the game flow. The Packers have a tremendous offense. If McCarthy let’s Rodgers start calling his own plays. I believe it will give Rodgers more accountability. It can’t hurt.
I give the Packers a 2.5 out of 5 for this game. Detroit is up next. The Packers need to win this game. The Packers don’t need to go 1-3.
