Packers Super Bowl Or Bust

Ring Front

The Preseason is finally over. It’s time for the real games to begin. I watched all the preseason games, well almost all of the games. It’s hard to watch an entire preseason game. I can say with all honesty, I have no clue how good the Packers will be. I know the preseason means nothing. The Packers offense and defense looked mediocre. That’s being kind.

Last year the Packers started the season at 2-3. One was the fail mary game in Seattle. Who can forget? Let’s be honest, the Packers offensively and defensively looked mediocre early on in the regular season just like in the preseason. Is it a coincidence?

There are three things I am looking at for the Packers to have a shot at winning the Super bowl this year:

1. Offensive line: The offensive line gave up 39 sacks last year. Rodgers did help with that total. Barclay at right tackle, and Bakhtiari at left tackle. Both are nasty lineman and hard workers. But not a lot of experience obviously. The Packers start with San Francisco, Cincinnati, and Washington all of them have decent defensive lines. If the offensive line can hold up against those three teams, we’re off to a good start. If not, it could make for a long season. After that we have Baltimore, Detroit, and Minnesota. Not going to get any easier.

2. Defensive line: Johnny Jolly made the final roster. That’s great for him. But what does it say about the other draft choices, and the street free agents we brought in? Jolly didn’t play a down of football for over two years. Datone Jones needs to have huge season. Jones needs to relentlessly pressure the Quarterback. Clay Matthews can’t keep doing this all by himself. If teams cannot double team Matthews we know what will happen. A running back is no match for Matthews. Ryan Picket and BJ Raji need to step up just like in 2010. Mike Daniels is improving which will help the line. He’s not a difference maker. CJ Wilson is just a guy.

3. Injuries: I don’t know who or what the Packers made angry. It seems to get worse every year regarding injuries. The Packers were called a soft team in the offseason. I have no idea if that is true. But, when it comes to injuries we’re really unlucky. If there is a patron saint of football injuries. Let us pray.

I’m sure there are other areas like the running game, secondary, special teams that
are important to the success of whether the Packers win another Super bowl this year. I would like to hear any comments on those areas. I looked at the three important areas that I thought would make or break the Packers. My prediction for the Packers this year is 11-5. As far as the playoffs are concerned, I have no idea. I’ll see how the season goes. Go Pack!

  1. Michael Carr says:

Lacy and Franklin don’t look as good as they’re touted. Thinking outside the box, bring in Tim Tebow as a running back. I think people would be surprised how good he would be.
