As the Packers near the end of the end of the season and prepare for a playoff run. Which Packer fans hope is a road to the Super bowl. I can’t help but think this is McCarthy’s best coaching to date.
The injuries are out of control similar to the 2010 Super bowl year. The injuries seem to be worse this year. The 2010 season we weren’t missing as many impactful players. This season McCarthy has only had the starting receiving core together for four games. The offense line is a mess even when it was healthy. Rodgers has taken more hits than a bumper car at an amusement park. Not to mention the defense has never had all their starters since preseason. Last but not least Crosby is a mess and cannot be trusted.
Yet, the Packers have a winning record. Most NFL teams would have losing records and looking ahead to next year. Granted, we are getting back some of our walking wounded still we have a lot of players out for the year that could contribute greatly to the team. Desmond Bishop comes to mind for one. The Packers seem to roll with the punches, like it’s no big deal. It comes from the top.
My question is how is McCarthy doing this? How does McCarthy take a bunch of rookies on defense. An offense that is not the power it once was? Still be able to have a winning record and a contender for a Super Bowl title? A good boss, coach, leader sets high standards by being consistent through good times and bad times. McCarthy has said, this team doesn’t get to high or to low they are a balanced team. It’s a good locker room. That starts with the head coach.
McCarthy is surrounded by great position coaches who have been through this before. McCarthy trusts these coaches enough to get these players ready. The other reason he trusts Ted Thompson who has a knack to see the diamond in the rough, a true player that fits the Packer system.
I do believe McCarthy should be considered for coach of the year. McCarthy just knows what buttons to push and how to motivate the players. The players seem to get and buy what McCarthy is preaching. McCarthy is a coach to be reckoned with and just like the Packer team he seems to get better when things go against him. A very rare trait to have in this world today.
