Packers Re-Sign OLB Erik Walden

The Packers have announced the re-signing of outside linebacker Erik Walden.

A 2008 sixth round pick out of Middle Tennessee State by the Dallas Cowboys, the 6-foot-2, 250-pound Walden has 108 tackles, six sacks, one forced fumble and three passes defensed during his 53-game career with the Kansas City Chiefs (2008), Miami Dolphins (2008-10) and Packers.

During his two seasons with the Packers, Walden has started 17 of 25 games totaling 85 tackles, six sacks and three passes defensed. Walden had nine tackles and a sack in three playoff games in 2010, but missed Super Bowl XLV with an injury. Walden played in over 82 percent of the Packers’ regular season snaps in 2011 and came off the bench to record one tackle in the playoff loss to the New York Giants.

While Walden returns, he’ll have to earn his starting role opposite Clay Matthews this summer. The Packers are expected to address the outside linebacker position in the draft and, if they’re unable to draft a player, will have Frank Zombo and Brad Jones push Walden for the job.
