Let’s Play Mock Draft

My fellow Packer fans it’s time to play mock draft. We can put ourselves in the role of Ted Thompson and find the best players available to bring another Title to Title Town. I’m just commenting on the Packers first pick. If you have a full draft one thru seven picks, please post them.

If I was Ted Thompson I would move up to get Peter Konz ,Center, Wisconsin. I really don’t think he’ll slip to us at 28th. Other teams like a New Orleans, Chicago, and Houston need a center.

If we do get Konz he’ll be able to study behind one of the best NFL veteran centers in Jeff Saturday. Rodgers is in his prime and a elite center will help him continue to be one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Let’s be honest, when Rodgers is off the whole team is off. If you don’t have a elite center to help call out blocking schemes, and pick up blitzes it’s going to be a long season.

I know defense was a sore spot for the Packers. I really don’t like any of the defense players that could fall to the Packers. I believe moving up to get a player like Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama is not a wise move. He’s a good player but not a difference maker. He played on a great Alabama defense. There have been other players like Devon Still, DE, Penn State, mentioned that the Packers could draft. Again, I’m not thrilled about him either. There is one defense player that does intrigue me. Shea McClellin, DE, Boise St. he has a high motor, and was at winning program which usually translates well to the NFL.  The Packers could place him opposite Clay Matthews and he might be a nice fit on passing downs.

On a side note, I believe the Packers should draft a safety in the later rounds. Nick Collins should retire he has money, a loving family, and a Super Bowl ring.  Have fun with the mock draft.

  1. I understand where you’re coming from, but you have to remember, ted Thompson tries to avoid trading up in the draft like the plague. It goes against his entire philosophy of how to build a team. Look at his past drafts and the way he handles free agency. they definitely have plans for a new, young center. They know Saturday isn’t the long-term answer, but I don’t think they’ll trade up to do it.

I’m not sure yet at 28…my early list is Mike Adams, Dont’a Hightower, and Kendall Reyes. What I really want is:

TT to trade pick 28 to KC for their 44th and 74th.

    44) OLB-Shea McClellin
    59) CB-Jamell Fleming, Josh Robinson, or Josh Norman
    74) WR-Greg Childs or A.J. Jenkins
    90) OL-Nate Potter, Amini Silatolu, Jeff Allen, or Brandon Brooks
    123) S-Markelle Martin or Antonio Allen
    132) C-Philip Blake or Quentin Saulsberry
    133) DE-Malik Jackson, Jaye Howard, Trevor Guyton, or Tyrone Crawford
    163) QB-Ryan Lindley
    197) OLB-Jacquies Smith, Kyle Wilber, or Josh Kaddu
    224) NT-Hebron Fangupo
    235) RB-Alfred Morris, Rodney Stewart, or Michael Smith
    241) TE-James Hanna or Adrien Robinson
    243) CB-Chris Greenwood
UDFA: WR-LaVon Brazill, C-Scott Wedige or Chris Anzevino, OLB-Jerry Brown, OLB/SS Jerrico Nelson, CB/S-Josh Bush, OL-Dustin Waldron, DE-Marcus Kuhn, QB-David Legree, DE-Drew Nowak

Fletcher Cox, DT from Mississippi State. Will play DE in the 3-4. Big, long and fast. Will be a starter in 2012.
TT will probably trade up to get him and TT will do it. He has been aggressive with the FAs this year, signing 3. He will continue to be aggressive in the draft, trading up once or even twice.

  4. BubbaOne says:

Really? Most mocks have Cox going in the mid teens. To move up to 14 would cost TT his first 3 picks (28, 59, 90). Would I love to draft Cox, you bet, but the cost isn’t worth it.

  5. Bob says:

Cox would be amazing, and if he fell to the 20’s I would love to trade up for him! I think there is decent late first round defensive quality for sure. But I really cannot wrap my head around the Konz craze. If we pick him we are doing nothing to help the weakest part of our team and not improving our team significantly for at least another year. DE or OLB will have talent available. Take a developmental interior lineman in the 3-5 rds.
