Hawk Says Flip of the Middle Finger a Joke with Teammates

A.J. Hawk had better get his checkbook and a pen out, as he’s going to get hit with a fine this week after taking the time to flip the bird Sunday during the Packers big win over the Rams.

The Packers linebacker threw up his middle finger for about two seconds Sunday after a sack of Rams QB Sam Bradford during the teams 24-3 win. After the game, Hawk said it was a joke with his teammates.

“I guess it was on TV,” Hawk said in the locker room after the game. “I definitely wasn’t mad or upset with anybody. It was kind of a running joke with a couple of my teammates. I got caught up in the emotion of the game.

The salute was caught on Fox’s camera’s as it happened, and then later on they showed it again, blurring out the middle finger.

“Sometimes you forget that it’s on TV. I definitely want to apologize to anyone who’s kids were watching and got offended or anything. I understand. I’m sorry that got out there.”

Hawk isn’t having the biggest of seasons for the now 6-0 Packers, as he entered Sunday’s game with just a half a sack to his credit. The former Ohio State Buckeye said he didn’t think much about his actions at the time because he was pumped up from making a big play.

“I don’t get a whole lot of sacks, so I was excited,” Hawk said. “I just got up and it happened. Like I said, I apologize, but I didn’t really think about it at the time. A lot of times I get stuck in that game mode and don’t really worry about who’s around me or the team or the fans.

“So I definitely apologize for that. It wasn’t meant to get out there for people to see.”

But it was seen, and for that, he’ll likely have to write a check to the league for it.
