Thompson should have done more to get RB Lynch

The Packers need help at running back, and there was a guy out there for the taking that has shown enough talent that could have helped the team right away – Marshawn Lynch.

The Seattle Seahawks swooped in on Tuesday and grabbed Lynch away from the Bills for a third-round pick, something that many feel Ted Thompson should have offered the Bills at least a 3rd rounder, if not more.

Reports though do say that the Packers were in the mix, though it’s tough figure out at the end of the day what they were offering the Bills. It must not have been much.

An NFL source who knew of the trade talks said Thompson was in on the bidding for Lynch. The source didn’t know what Thompson offered, but it’s safe to say it wasn’t as much as Seattle, because there were no factors to think 0-4 Buffalo did anything but take the best offer. That means Thompson didn’t offer a third-round pick. He should have.

So where do the Packers go from here? It appears that Brandon Jackson will continue to be the feature back. He is putting up just 34.3 yards per game, and has 137 yards and one touchdown. Next on the roster is John Kuhn, with 121 yards with one TD.

Lynch? He has 164 yards, 41 yards per game with the Bills, but has been fighting for playing time with Fred Jackson and rookie C.J. Spiller. He now has a shot to be the man in Seattle. He should have been in Green Bay, but instead, it could be a move that Thompson regrets if the teams running woes continue.
