The NFL Draft

The Packers have decided to follow the Thompson Plan: avoid any major free agent pick-ups and focus on the draft.

We have eight picks and have at least eight needs (in order of need):

  1. Offensive tackle
  2. Defensive Back
  3. Punter
  4. Outside Linebacker
  5. Safety
  6. Running Back
  7. Return Specialist
  8. Guard

Don’t expect us to make any major moves via trades.

Al Harris isn’t expected back until mid-season. Expect us to draft a DB in the second round.
If Mike Iupati is available at number 23, we should draft him. He’s a stud (future all-pro talk, may be a bit premature) and would be a major upgrade on the interior of the offensive line. Otherwise, we should pick an OT or OLB (in the first round) as this year’s draft is deep in lineman, linebackers as well as DB’s and safeties.

Sit back and enjoy. We could use upgrades at all eight spots and don’t be surprised if we draft a punter either in round five or six.

One Response to “The NFL Draft”

  1. Well, this “Thompson Plan” is quite interesting. Focusing on the draft picks could possibly make a fortune for the Packers. There’s a lot of promising rookie players out there, you just have to pick the right ones. Moreover, this would mean a lot of work still needs to be done by the Packers so as to organize their team play.
