Raji seen leaving Green Bay

B.J. Raji left Green Bay today on a flight bound to Chicago.  His intended destination is unknown, however, this does not bode well for contract talks.  The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report this story tonight.

The status of the contract negotiations between the Green Bay Packers and first-round draft pick B.J. Raji got more cloudy earlier tonight.

Witnesses at Austin Straubel International Airport saw Raji boarding a plane out of Green Bay at around 6 p.m. An employee confirmed to the Journal Sentinel that a “Busari Raji” — Raji’s given name — checked in for a flight to Chicago.

Where Raji is headed or why was not immediately known. Representatives from Athletes First, the firm that represents Raji, did not immediately return phone messages.

But it’s certainly not a good sign as the ninth overall pick’s holdout will undoubtedly stretch into a 12th day on Wednesday.

It looked like it was going to be a crucial day in negotiations between the two sides, especially after former first-round pick Justin Harrell joined fellow left defensive end Johnny Jolly on the injured list. Before Raji’s holdout, he was slated to start at the position. He is now listed as a backup to Ryan Pickett at nose tackle.

Increased talks between the two sides apparently haven’t yielded much results.

Earlier today, Packers general manager Ted Thompson said the negotiations were plodding along.

“Frustrating for everybody I’m sure. Certainly for us and I’m sure for B.J. and his representatives,” said Thompson. “It’s continual dialogue, and it’s ongoing.

“I think any kind of discussion is progress and we’re working at it. I don’t know how to predict in terms of when something might get done or anything like that. But both sides are working very hard, and it’s a difficult thing for both sides.”

I say let the SOB sit the year out. He should be thanking God (or Allah or whatever) that he has been given the gift and privelage to be even selected to play in the NFL. Too much greed for these young punks. Let him truck bathtubs at Kohler with his basket-weaving degree if he wants to pass up becoming a multi-millionnaire for playing a game!
