Pro Football Weekly reports that the Pack has signed first-round pick LB Clay Matthews:
The Packers made some headway on the signing front with training camp imminent, agreeing to terms Thursday with OLB Clay Matthews, the second of the team’s two first-round draft choices. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the 26th pick overall in the 2009 draft signed a five-year deal worth $10 million, with an opportunity to earn $13.275 million overall. Last year’s 26th overall selection, Texans OT Duane Brown, signed a five-year, $9.1 million deal with a maximum value of $11.4 million.
The USC linebacker is expected to compete with Jeremy Thompson for the starting right outside linebacker job — one of many intriguing position battles that could develop in the Packers’ camp. The only Packers rookie who remains unsigned is NT B.J. Raji, the ninth pick overall in this year’s draft.
