Look for TE Finley to Have a Bigger Role in the Offense in 2009

Look for TE Jermichael Finley to have a bigger role in the Packers offense this year. Today’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports:

Tight end Jermichael Finley was a roll of the dice, another in a long list of Ted Thompson’s athletic draft choices with tons of potential but not much production. Finley’s first season with the Green Bay Packers went about as expected. A third-year sophomore, Finley thought he was ready for prime time but really wasn’t. “Last year you had a 21-year-old kid who, and I’m probably embellishing, barely knew left from right,” said Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. “I don’t want to say he was overwhelmed, but it was close.” It wasn’t until the last two games of a 6-10 season that the Packers got something of a return on their third-round investment.
