John Madden Retires

john-madden

For the first time since he was a freshman in high school, John Madden will not be involved in football this season.  The NFL hall of famer announced his retirement on Thursday after thirty years of broadcasting.  His last game in the announcer’s booth: Super Bowl XLIII, a thrilling last minute Pittsburg Steelers victory.

Madden, 73, claims to have perfect health and cites his family as his motivation to retire.  He will celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary this fall and wants to spend more time with his five grand children.

While Chris Collinsworth will take over for Madden on Sunday night football on NBC, Madden plans to stay busy.  He will still travel on his bus and maintain his endorsements such as the Madden video game franchise.
