An Open Letter to Ted Thompson…

Dear Ted,

Now that Free Agency is here….

I know you’re not the kind of guy who likes to make a big splash in free agency and that’s ok, but I was just hoping you’d consider a few points. It has been well documented that landing Reggie White in free agency back in 1993 helped launch the packers back to prominence. He was a monster on the field but he was also a true leader in the locker room.

After the defensive performance on the field this past season I’m begging you to bring in another leader like that. I know at 35 he’s a bit older than you’d like but Ted I’m begging you to Sign Derrick Brooks. I don’t know exactly where he’d fit into the new 3-4 scheme, but it would be nice to have the veteran leadership in the linebacker core. I bet he’s got some gas left in the tank and I bet that he’d love to prove to the new regime down in Tampa that he can still play.

You’ve made some great moves getting a quality defensive coaching staff together and I could not be happier Bob Sanders is gone. I can’t wait to see the new look defense in 2009. I don’t think Dom Capers Defense will give up 51 points on Monday night. Secondly, I’d really like to see you get a play making TE for Aaron Rodgers to throw passes to on Sunday.

I was really excited last season when I heard you were possibly trading for Tony Gonzalez, but unfortunately you couldn’t give up your precious draft picks to get him. It couldn’t have hurt down the stretch for Aaron to have one more target late in the game after our defense had just given up the lead.

Aaron Rogers needs his Bubba Franks or Keith Jackson to rely on; you never know what your going get with Donald Lee or Jermichael Finley. Finally and this is Just the sentimental fan in me but I’d really like to see you bring back Ahman Green sign him at the minimum and let him get the few yards he needs for the team rushing record, so he can retire where he should’ve stayed.

I can’t blame him Houston gave him a ridiculous contract for a RB who was past his prime, I bet it had something to do with Mike Sherman who just wasn’t fiscally responsible as you Ted. If Rodgers and the Pack succeed in 2009 maybe the Favre loyalists will leave you alone, but I doubt it. God bless you and Go Pack.

  1. I know that GM is not a big spender when it comes to free agency, but he knows how to draft good players in the draft. His mind frame is “let’s get younger”, which they have, but I think they should go out and provide Rodgers with some weapons on O and some help on D as well. I would’ve loved to see Julius Peppers come to GB, but that isn’t gonna happen as i seems to me. Right now I’m very unsure of the 3-4 defense that they’re installing, but I’m hoping out that will work out fine.

Hey Ted, I keep hearin’ we’re 30 mil undercap. How about going and getting some defensive tackles and such to help out the new 3-4 scheme. You gotta start getting involved in this free agency thing, it’s not such a bad thing you know. If you haven’t heard, there’s been alot of excellent d-line players on the market and I haven’t heart GB mention once about looking at any of them. What’s the deal? Our d-line sucked last year and I think Rogers could maybe use a tad bit more help in front of him for a little more time and protection. So get off your high horse and do some shopping would ya?

Hey, does anyone have TT’s phone number? Someone should call him and let him know that free agency started last Friday! 30 million under the CAP and the youngest team in the NFL and we are going to continue to build through the draft 100%?
    Another long season ahead.

so far I don’t think a TE is our biggest need for this year, I think we still need to find that nickel back corner who’s gonna show his worth beyond what we’ve gotten with Jarret Bush or Tramon Williams

  5. look not only has TT blown another Free agency season by not signing anyone he has let a key peice of the puzzle go!! TT will give ryan grant some rediculous contract but a mainstay at NT? hell dont give him any money, look the packers have no reason not to be sending money this isnt the NBA or MLB teams are not just skirting along the salary cap is something like 121 million right? and we are 30 million under this why? because our “great GM” is cheap the packers made more than a billon dollars in revenue last year from ticket sales, food and beer alone last year not to mention the portion they get from jersey sales. albert would have been great for us now instead of throughing boatloads of money at him which we could have due to our amazing cap room we didnt sign him and we’ve lost our starting NT? wtf is going on here this year is going to be a complete failure on defence poor aaron rodgers will be good but the defence again will suck the good thing maybe then we will get rid of the dumb ass

  6. sorry just another thought remember the last time the Packers brought in the most amazing dominate very very very expensive d-line man? oh thas right we won a super bowl, how many have we won since then zero? i wonder if that year was the year we stopped signing free agents i do understand this thought process though….hey that worked really really well lets never do it again, the packers will not win a chapionship nor even make it to one while Teddy is in office
