Packers Reaching Into the Practice Squad

McCarthy and Thompson have turned to the practice squad for relief from the plethora of injuries that plague the team. Today, cornerback Joe Porter and defensive tackle Alfred Malone, both first year players in the league and on the team, were signed. Porter, at 5’10” and 203 pounds, hails from Rutgers, where he recorded 94 tackles and 5 interceptions over 44 games.

Malone is actually a few years older, and has played in a couple of games for the Houston Texans, but a broken bone in his hand sidelined his career there. He played college ball for both Troy and Georgia Tech, but his final season was at Troy, where he accomplished 4 sacks and 35 tackles in just 12 games.

Nick Barnett and Kenny Pettway were placed on injured reserve.
