Packers Tussle with the Titans But Lose 19-16

For a short time, the Green Bay Packers held a 10-6 lead over the Tennessee Titans. Those were hard fought points, with a great deal of physical confrontation and several flaring tempers. However, the battle between Rob Bironas and Mason Crosby ultimately turned in the favor of the Titans in overtime, and the unbeaten team from Tennessee came away with another one, 19-16.

Both teams scored 10 points in the second quarter, but nobody scored more than 3 in any other quarter. These were two top caliber teams who brought their best game to Nashville today. The Packers carried the air of a team with confidence, even though there were several highly emotional player interactions.

The Packers can leave, in the opinion of this writer, pleased with the results. To take the only unbeaten team in the NFL to a 16-16 tie at the end of regulation is an accomplishment in itself, and to do it on the road is an even greater bragging point.

Green Bay actually won the yardage battle, with 390 total yards, 288 of those in the air. Aaron Rodgers went 22 for 41, while Kerry Collins completed 18 of his 37 passes.

On the ground, however, the Packers still struggle. The offensive line still doesn’t have the punch to consistently make holes for Ryan Grant to run through, and he still really needs a few free breaks. In 20 hard carries, Grant only managed 86 yards, with a “longest” of 14. First downs still seemed very predictable – Grant up the middle for 5, Grant up the middle for 7, and so forth.

A clash of good defensive teams at this level always puts the game at the mercy of the kickers, and this game was a great example of that. Each team only scored one touchdown, and Aaron Rodgers had the only fumble in the entire game.

Donald Driver had a season high 136 yards of receiving, and Greg Jennings was no slouch either, accounting for another 79.

Green Bay fans have nothing at all to be disappointed about after this game – the Pack is on track, and soon we can say that the Pack is BACK.
