Favre

Things have taken quite a turn today in the Brett Favre saga, as for the first time it seems that the Packers are speaking out about the fact that Favre says he wants to be released to go play elsewhere.  The story today is that the Packers DO want Brett back, and John Clayton is saying that no decision has been made about what role Favre will play in 08.

That’s not what came out today in the Milwuakee Journal-Sentinel, which wrote that GM Ted Thompson said “Aaron Rodgers is our starting quarterback.”  Here is another quote from Thompson about Favre in terms of what role he’ll play this year upon his return: “I don’t know how to answer that. We have moved forward. So we’ll see where it goes.”

This is like 8th grade all over again.  If the Packers say they want Favre back, the QB seems to back off and want to stay retired.  If Favre wants to come back and play, the Packers say “no thanks.”  Am I the only one getting annoyed by this?  Ok, back to more Favre news, as the AP put out a string of stories, one of which said that the future Hall of Famer would be the backup.

Now the question will be on Favre, and if he’ll demand the team release or trade him if he does not get the starting job back.  The story for sure will continue to be one that everyone will keep their eye on with each passing story.
