Taylor Reportedly Not Interested in Packers Trade Desires

The Packers reportedly were interested in getting their hands on Dolphins unhappy DE Jason Taylor, but according to a source close to Taylor, the former Defensive Player of the Year is not headed for the land of cheese.  “I don’t see it happening,” a source close to Taylor said Friday. “He’s been through that quarterback thing before,” the source said. “He doesn’t want to go through it again. Maybe if Favre was still there, but even that wouldn’t be a given.”

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has the story today on Taylor not coming to the Pack, a team that must think they are a player away from being in the big game, a place they thought they were headed last season before they were upset by the Giants at Lambeau Field.  Of course there is no “for sure” about Green Bay, even more now with Aaron Rodgers being counted on to be a solid starting QB from day one.

As for Taylor, I see the Chargers still as a team that is the front-runner for his services should he get moved.  The Bolts have more than enough talent to make it to the big game, and Taylor would be a get fit for that system.  He also wouldn’t be counted on to save the franchsie, which is something he might be asked to do if he goes to a bad team.  Taylor will pick his new team, and then it will be up to the Fins to get a deal done.

As far as the Packers probably not getting Taylor I have mixed feelings. While I think he could have helped our defense quite a bit (Just imagine how good our defensive line would have been with Taylor part of the mix), if he doesn’t want to play here I don’t know if I really want him anymore. I want the Packers that we do have to want to be here since they will then play so much harder for the team.

I also think the Packers defense will be fine without Taylor. As long as Harrell, Jolly and KGB can recover from their injuries I think we have one of the strongest defensive lines in the entire league. Jenkins’ play should improve this season since he was supposedly hurt most of last season. Plus I have heard that the team is thinking about using more blitzes this year (about time) which should also help put pressure on the opponents QB. While I think the Packers defense would be better with Taylor, I think our defense will also be fine without him.
