Reports say the Packers will be more aggressive on defense in 2008, making sure that they get after the quarterback and ball carriers quicker. Todays Milwaukee Journal Sentinel talks about the the Packers new look defense, talking about the team taking more chances with blitz packages. “There’s definitely more of an emphasis there,” coach Mike McCarthy said Monday. “There’s no question about it.” D-coordinator Bob Sanders will be more ready to unleash linebackers and corners this season, a move that sits fine with McCarthy.
“You’re seeing the full onslaught of what our system is capable of doing,” McCarthy said. “We’re doing more with more personnel groups, and we’re doing a little bit more with secondary pressure. That’s all part of being aggressive schematically, which I feel we definitely are more now.”
In the teams last seven games, the team had just 8 sacks, 1.1 per game, while in the first 11 games, the team had 32 sacks, 2.9 per game. The last seven games the team moved to a 4-3 defense, and the team wants to build on that in 2008, hoping putting in place now will pay off.
