Progress Being Made Between Grant and the Packers

Grant

It looks as if the Packers and running back Ryan Grant are going to be able to come to terms on a deal that will get him the salary he wants and will reward him for a job well done in 2007.  The Green Bay Press-Gazette is reporting that talks between Grant and the team took a big step forward last week and his agent s optimistic that a deal is going to get done in the next few weeks.

Grant cannot become an unrestricted free agent until 2011, and by then he’ll be 28, but is looking now for long-term security for the job he did as the teams feature back last season as they made it to the NFC Title game.  His agent, Alan Herman, says that Grant will not sign his $370,000 minimum tender for a second-year pro.

“The important issue is the club has indicated they’re not big players in the free-agent market and they like to take care of their own,” Herman said. “Ryan had truly an extraordinary year and it wasn’t like he was a flash in the pan. He played 12 games, that’s a lot of games, at the highest level. Clearly, they know what they have and that’s why the opportunity to get something done and keep him there for a long time is kind of apparent.”

The Packers have been shuffling backs in and out since Ahman Green was tearing it up for them a few years back, and Grant is a player that they can bank on and he should be rewarded with a deal that will pay him what he is worth to be a feature back for a contending NFC team.

I am happy to hear they are going to take care of Grant. Since Ahman left that has been one of my key concerns. I am curious to see the numbers he gets based off of one good season though.
