Favre himself has yet to make a public statement about his decision. Packers general manager Ted Thompson and head coach Mike McCarthy reacted to Favre’s decision to retire at a press conference on Tuesday. Thompson said that everyone is a little disappointed that Favre will not be returning for a 17th season in Green Bay, but they do respect his decision. McCarthy said Favre informed him of his intent to retire via telephone on Monday night. McCarthy added that Favre said he is very mentally tired.
