What a fantastic weekend of the greatest spectator sport in the world! Of course I say this as a Packer fan. I imagine the same wouldn't be said by fans of the losing teams. The ambience of the game in Green Bay can only be described as Rockwell-esque. The way football was meant to be played in January... huge snow flakes floating down on an outdoor stadium, tough running, hard hits with players sliding 5 yards after going down...nothing short of picture perfect. On another note, to editorialize... Isn't the phrase "...all intents and purposes" rather than "...all intensive purposes"? Lastly...Am I the only one that thinks it's going to take forever for Sunday to get here?

I'm so happy the underrated Packers are going on to the championship game...they completely deserve it!

What's more typical is (with a few exceptions) where the news of the Packer's domination of the Hawks, and their ascension this season lands them in the national press...typically as a footnote to the Cowboys overrated season and Romo's soap opera-ish horse hockey with Jessica. Can we talk football for change? Please...I wait for the power rankings which show the Dolts and Chowboys still leading the Packers. Some of these sports "experts" are morons.

I've been avidly studying some of those OTHER power rankings. Even late in the season Green Bay has been relegated to a spot behind Pittsburgh, Dallas, Indianapolis and even Jacksonville, as well as the perennial favorite New England. I was even told by Mike Ditka on ESPN radio that the Packers were NOT a cold weather team. Well, the NFC and AFC Conference games are here, and it's bye bye Jaguars, bye bye Colts, bye bye Cowboys, bye bye Steelers, bye bye Buccaneers and Seahawks; only the Patriots, the Chargers, the Giants, and the Packers are left standing. (I am sure this is irrelevant, but in 2007 the Packers have already defeated New York and San Diego in regular season games.) Back when Green Bay won those games, against all pundit expectation, the conclusion drawn was that the Giants and the Chargers must be much, much weaker than anybody thought. Although the Giants and Chargers have stepped up their play considerably from earlier this season, I have no doubt the Packers have improved as well, if only by the superb coaching Brett Favre has gotten from Mike McCarthy. But we'll have to wait until after the Super Bowl for anybody to acknowledge what should be obvious now, that Green Bay has the best head coach in the NFL. My vote, on the basis of current performance, is that the Packers have earned a Power Ranking of 2.
