Sources Say that Barnett is Unlikely to be Charged

Packers linebacker Nick Barnett may get off on his recent issues after allegedly pushing a female in a bar. Reports say that the woman threw a drink in Barnett’s face, which may have provoked him to do what he did. Now there are reports that state that NFL commish Roger Goodell, who has been strict with problems off the field to date, may give Barnett the benefit of the doubt over what took place.

It is the first incident of its kind for Barnett in his five-year pro career, and now sources are saying that they would be shocked if Barnett gets any sort of suspension. That would be of great relief to the Packers, who need Barnett on the field as one of stars on defense, and as the leader as the middle linebacker. Barnett was a solid part of why the Packers “D” last season was ranked 12th in the league, and missing him for even four games would hurt, as the Pack open up at home vs Philly at the Giants in week two, home for the Chargers, and at Minnesota on September 30th.

Goodell has been tough on players who have a history and have done not so smart things off the field, but this does not look to be the case here, as again, it looks as if Barnett was provoked into the incident. Even though most matters are looked at one by one, this clearly looks like a case of a mistake should Barnett have to sit at this point.
