The Packers have announced the signing of fourth-round pick Allen Barbre, an offensive guard out of Division II school Missouri Southern State. Terms of the contract were not announced. The word on Barbre from ESPN: “with a tremendous showing at the combine, Barbre projects as an early-Day 2 pick.”

Barbe stands at 6-foot-4, and 300 pounds, and could be a solid linemen for a Packers unit that had some issues opening holes for running backs in 2006. From D2football.com: “Barbre is very athletic and has speed that most linemen wish they had. He plays on the punt coverage team and has made several tackles this season, showing that he can get down field in a hurry. He will shine on special teams since he has been playing it all year long. He is the type of athlete who can play multiple positions on the line and even excel on special teams. Expect him to make a roster as a utility player until he can develop into a quality pro at a certain position.”
