Packers Planning to use West Coast Offense in 07?

Packers coach Mike McCarthy may just be bringing the rollouts back. ESPN2’s Bob Glauber reported earlier today that McCarthy is planning to use rollouts more often this season, thinking QB Brett Favre will have more time to pass and be more effective if he’s getting out of the pocket more. Maybe it’s just me but almost every team in the league uses some form of the famous “West Coast offense”.
The basis of this offense is to allow the QB time to roll out of the pocket and find open receivers. The QB would have to (at least to me) have a little bit of elusiveness to be able to run the offense with success; last time I checked Brett doesn’t possess much of that. But I can see why McCarthy would want to incorporate this offense as the WR’s as the Packers wideouts (other than Driver) are relatively young.
Another thing to consider: the West Coast offense has somewhat changed over the years in this respect - the rollouts haven’t become an offensive staple as much as some of the other innovations that Bill Walsh, creator of the West Coast offense, put together — especially the reliance on short passes. At least the Pack will have all of training camp to learn and hopefully master this offense so Favre can in fact be more efficient.
